Exploring Crucial Teams
High-performing teams are not created simply by bringing talented people together. They are built through trust, healthy conflict, commitment, accountability, and a shared focus on results. Crucial Teams provides professionals with practical tools for strengthening team effectiveness while recognizing that the diversity of experiences, expertise, personalities, and perspectives within a team can be one of its greatest assets.
Description
Using Patrick Lencioni’s Five Dysfunctions of a Team model as a foundation, participants will explore five interconnected elements that can either strengthen or undermine team performance: absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability, and inattention to results. Participants will examine how these dysfunctions show up in everyday team interactions and learn strategies for addressing them.
A key focus of the course is learning to seek out and value diverse perspectives. Effective teams do not require everyone to think alike. Instead, they create an environment where people feel safe expressing different ideas, questioning assumptions, respectfully challenging one another, and contributing perspectives shaped by their unique experiences and expertise. Participants will explore how cognitive diversity can improve decision-making, problem-solving, innovation, and team outcomes—and how a lack of psychological safety can cause valuable perspectives to remain unheard.
Through discussion, interactive activities, and practical application, participants will identify opportunities to strengthen trust, engage in productive conflict, build commitment around decisions, establish accountability, and maintain focus on shared results. Participants will leave with strategies they can immediately apply to build teams where people can disagree openly, learn from one another, and work together toward a common goal.
